Intermediate Grades

3rd - 7th

Students in 3rd through 7th grade learn in a multi-age classroom. Multi-age classrooms provide a personalized learning environment where teachers tailor instruction to each child’s unique strengths and needs. With more time spent together, teachers gain a deeper understanding of their students, enabling stronger support for their development. This approach fosters a sense of growth and success, recognizing each child as an individual learner rather than expecting uniform progress.

Self-Directed Learning Model

Students set goals and work through units of study at a self-directed pace with teacher guidance and support. Teachers will work with students individually and in small groups as needed. Students can extend their learning and gain a deeper understanding of content through hands-on activities, gameplay, and cooperative learning. Self-directed learning leads to higher engagement, more substantial learning outcomes, and gains in time-management skills.

Learning for Mastery

Students' daily work and activities will be used to gain understanding through practice and reteaching. Students will show mastery of learning through short, periodic mastery checks leading to more comprehensive unit assessments.
